Saturday Duties, or, Not the Most Clever Post Title

by Laura

Nous sommes pooped.

We arrived at Brother number 2's house at 11am today as promised.  On Saturdays we visit him for an hour or two to see how he's doing, check his computer, go over any snail mail he's received.  Today we were also going to take him to the diner to celebrate his birthday, which was yesterday.

Oh, but it wasn't just any diner.  He had taken us to the same diner on our birthday six months ago, and before we could stop him, he purchased a $75.00 gift certificate for us.  Seventy. Five. Dollars.  He can't even pay his rent without a monthly stipend from his inheritance, and he's giving us a $75.00 gift certificate that we won't even use, and which expires after a year.  Sigh.  Such is having a sibling with an unspecified learning disability.  :-/

So we'd told him that we were going to use at least part of the gift certificate to take him to lunch for his birthday.  The cost of said lunch used up only a little more than a third of the total amount, and the manager said that we couldn't include the tip from there.  So between now and the end of the year, we have to go there again twice.

The other item on the agenda was going through forms related to a car accident that B2 had had about a week prior.  There was a police report, a repair report, a state accident report....all of which we had to guide him step-by-step so that he could prepare the correct documents for the state, for the insurance company, and for his own files.  Our organization skills are off the charts.  His are for sh*t.

Then after the diner we had to both go to our house because we needed to scan and print copies of the various forms.  B2 doesn't have a scanner or a printer.  After that, we had to download six months of bank statements so that B1, who lives four hours away, could review them before we meet with B2's financial advisor later this month.  B2's computer has some weird glitch with his bank's website, so we had to download the statements from our computer.

Then we had to upload each set of documents to the cloud that we created for B2, since he doesn't use a jump drive.  And we had to email the cloud links to both B1 and B2.  By the time we politely escorted B2 out the door, it was almost 3:30 pm.

Right now, I want nothing more than to lie down.  If we fall asleep during the baseball game, so be it.
