We find this a very worthwhile discussion, although for unrelated reasons, we don't have the energy to participate in depth. So we'll just summarize our beliefs:
1. As [someone in the forum] said, multiple systems with different viewpoints and realities can and should co-exist respectfully.
2. We believe that being multiple is only a disorder if it prevents the system from functioning in a healthy manner. We believe that being multiple is not a disorder for our system; rather, the conditions that cause disorder for us are major depression, generalized anxiety, and complex PTSD. Being many is who we are, and we believe strongly that accepting and embracing who we are is essential to our thriving individually and collectively.
3. Most of our time in the online multiple community has been spent around high-functioning systems whose views are similar to our own. We believe that it's human nature for people, whether singleton or multiple, to gravitate toward others who are similar. However, we also recognize that we personally need to address our own difficulty in accepting other perspectives.
