More Migraines, and Other Midlife Stuff

by Allegra

Thursday afternoon into Friday, we had a migraine that was even worse than the previous one.  You know it's bad when you wake up with your head throbbing.  :-/

It's caused by the humidity--really high humidity, which lingered for days as a prelude to heavy rain that finally reached our area on Friday night.  Factor in a predisposition that we know is menopause-related, because we never had migraines before the body was in its late forties.  It doesn't bode well for us, at least for the next few years.

But we woke up this morning to a day that was bright and sunny, and we saw that the humidity had dropped drastically outside after the rain had ended.  It was still humid inside the house, though, perhaps partially because it it wasn't warm enough to merit turning on our air conditioner.  Even now, late in the evening, our thermometer still shows 46 percent humidity indoors, which is high compared to  our apartment's usual humidity level in the low 30s.

Another menopause-related physical issue that we've been dealing with is extreme fatigue--being tired enough to fall asleep on the train home nearly every workday evening, or at least what seems like every workday evening.  It's true that we've been under a lot of stress, both work-related and therapy-related, but the menopause-related hormonal chaos is real, and we need to find a way to deal with it without feeling like we have to shut ourselves down completely just to get enough rest.

Other than that, we feel pretty calm, although some of us would like to be accomplishing more than we are.  We're easily frustrated by our own limitations.  But life is about making adjustments, and about learning as we go along.
