Phone Phollies

by Laura, Allegra and Val

The body is about to turn 54 years old. We don't need stuff, no matter what the littles say.  At this point in our life, time by ourselves, relaxing and doing things we enjoy, is a much more valuable commodity.

Well, we are treating ourselves to a new cell phone as we switch carriers.  Big drama inside about what kind of phone we should get. Rachel and Laura hate smartphones--Laura says they're like being assimilated into the Borg, and she wants to be different from everyone else. Rachel just doesn't like anything new. And both of them can't stand how smartphones turn everyone into walking zombies. [We're old enough to remember pay phones and MS-DOS, so yeah, we're stuck in a time warp.--Laura]

Anyway, for their sake, we bought a basic flip phone. We tried to customize the settings, but this phone turned out to be less customizable than our previous flip phone, which we had for 13 years. And the only reason we'd bought that phone in 2002 was that our previous phone was analog, and our then-carrier threatened to charge us an extra $5.00/month for sticking with analog service.

Back to 2015. So five days after we receive the new flip phone, we're back at the store (another branch, since we're too embarrassed to go back to the first location) asking about exchanging this new phone and upgrading to a simple smartphone. At least the guy didn't try to talk us into the latest model; he realized from talking with us that a simpler, less expensive smartphone would be better for us. But he had to order it from the warehouse, which would take two days.

So now Rachel's even more PO'd, but we know that she's so used to living in self-sacrifice mode that we talked her into waiting two days for the shipment, rather than buy the latest and greatest right now. So we're waiting another two days.

[So are the Days of our Lives.--Laura]
