It ain't easy living in an older body. As Laura likes to tell younger-bodied people, "Enjoy life now, before it starts to suck."
The body started wearing glasses full-time at age 4.5. We needed reading glasses just before the body turned 40. Like clockwork.
Last night we accidentally left our reading glasses on our desk at work. We never do this. We stopped at a CVS to buy stamps. Then about 15 minutes later, we were sitting on the commuter train, and we opened up our briefcase to get our glasses so that we could read the newspaper like we usually do. No glasses. :-0
So we dug out our CVS receipt, handed it to the girl sitting next to us (she was about 25; we're 54), and said, "Excuse me, can you read the phone number on this?"
She read us the number, and we turned on our phone to call the CVS. Now we had to see if we could still remember the number. Once we reached them, the recording said to "press 4," but we couldn't see the icon to go back to the numeric keypad. So we had to take a guess as to which blurry icon to press.
Long story short, the cashier at the CVS said that she didn't see a pair of glasses anywhere. When we got home, we used our previous pair, and we took that pair in to work today just in case the current pair was not there (i.e., gone for good). Much to our relief, it was on our desk after all.
