by shawn
back at the time when i first chose my name, there weren't too many girls named shawn. in fact, as far as we knew, there weren't too many shawns named shawn. spelled that way, i mean. the spelling was a novelty, and being a girl named shawn--with that spelling--was even more of a novelty.
i wasn't trying to be novel when i chose my name, though. it was who i am. it comes from one of the people in the stories that we wrote when we were in high school. the shawn in the stories was a girl who spelled her name this way.
i haven't been out for a long while. most of the babysitters haven't. it's a long story, but we've gotten the sense at this point in our healing that it's not only okay for us to be out, it's important. change can be hard for some of us, but if it helps us heal and move forward, it's right.
i think that much of the reason for more of us being out has to do with Charity's healing and for her need to rediscover herself. this means getting reacquainted with the things that are important to her, the things that serve as the foundation of who she is and how she lives her life.
this starts with the people who are important to her--most importantly my sisters and me. i'm not saying this out of self-promotion. it's true. Charity refers to me, Hannah, alyssa, and penny as "her girls," those who are closest to her in origin and closest to her heart. it means a great deal to all of us.
so when Charity's in pain, it's only natural that "her girls" would want to help her get through that pain. we have a system principle that kids and teens aren't supposed to take on the bigs' problems. but this doesn't mean that we stop caring, or that we stop wanting our bigs to be happy.
so i'm here, and i'm out more. the system as a whole is ready for it. we've had to compromise on a lot of things to get to this point. compromise in a healthy way. now we just have to see where this goes.
Hi Charity and others. Thanks for the invite to read your blog. We did so this morning. We started before a few phone conversations, and then came back to finish it afterward. We really like your writing style. Pretty sure we agree it be great to get rid of the menopause. We're a body age of 55 and have gone through it, but didn't have as many problems with hot spells. Agreeing though it HAS been a warm summer - and thank G* for air when it comes your way! It took a while for the system to realize that you were the Mosaic Mind we'd been interested in while working on our Mind Map. I think you are connected to Astraea and Jazz and RhymerHouse through their Groups of Healthy empowered Multiples and Plural Activism. We love those guys, but have been pretty dormant over the summer. We do have goals to get back to more activism INCLUDING writing more in our blog - which has been on and off again for the last 11 years. Seems this summer so many private things went directly to our Psychiatrist (hour sessions x 2 per week) that we don't post as much ... BUT, we're losing a great part of our being public by not posting. I'd be interested in knowing you all better - if your interested, let us know what you might look forward to in a relationship WITH another Multiple ;) our best, Anns
ReplyDeleteHi, and thanks for commenting. No, we are not connected to any group for empowered multiples or plural activism.
ReplyDeleteAs for relationships, we've chosen to avoid them altogether. We're better off that way.
