A Pox on Our Feelings

by Charity and Laura

[Note:  The change in author was a switch in mid-post, not any effort to work collaboratively. - L.]

[Laura:]  Our T has shingles. She's in her late 70s. She was told by her doctor to stay home for a week. She often has Skype sessions with clients, so when she called us on Tuesday to cancel our regular Wednesday-evening appointment, she said that she'd give herself a couple of days to rest, and then she'd call us Thursday (today).

Early afternoon today, no call. We texted her via email. We normally don't keep our cell phone on (that's a whole 'nother topic), so texting via email is a lot easier. She didn't respond to the text until after 5pm. We agreed to Skype tomorrow (Friday) at 5pm.

[Charity:]  We get upset when she cancels or postpones appointments, and then we  feel guilty for feeling upset. We know that these are normal emotions. But we always set impossible standards for ourselves, because it always seems that authority figures held impossible standards for us.  Maybe one of these days we can talk about something mundane without bringing up every core issue in our arsenal of dysfunction. :-/
