Someone we know posted on a forum:

Yep. And also in our case, "The downside of being intelligent and an excellent student is that no one thinks you need any support." Our second brother had special needs, and our mother poured all her energy into advocating for him. We and our first brother were both gifted, and it never occurred to her that we needed any support, encouragement, or time.
Someone inside is saying about our parents, "They did the best they could." Well, f*ck that.
