[With input from Charity, in response to a friend who suggested that maybe everyone isn't ready to participate in the healing process:]
We agree that not every one of the adults is not at the same point of readiness. It feels like a tug-of-war between those who are ready and those who aren't. The consequences of this tug-of-war are far worse than rough, tired hands--it's constant chaos and confusion, battling chronic suicidality and a lack of interest in life. We can't let this go on. There's no good outcome in letting the status quo continue.
Our adults are adults in name only. They often don't feel like adults and don't experience the world as adults. They have many of the same emotions that they did as children, and they cope with life by avoiding the outside world and living in a world of illusion. But the illusion is all crumbling down, and the pain is too much for them to bear. We can't go back to the way things were, but we can't seem to move forward either.
