Darkness and Light

by Unspecified Author

The dichotomy of darkness and light is significant to our system. Above ground, the house and the other buildings are in the light. The cave and the tunnels are in the dark. The woods that cover the perimeter of the property are neither light nor dark; they serve as secluded areas for people who need them. We do not see each other on the inside; we can only visualize places but not people. So when we interact, it's like we're together in a dark room and can't see anything at all. It takes great effort to visualize each other when we're conversing, and then the image is only momentary.

In the outside world, we are sensitive to bright light and therefore prefer cloudy or partly cloudy days to sunny days. We are "night people" and prefer to keep the light low in our apartment at night and the blinds closed during the day.

We don't know why we're more comfortable in the darkness. It's odd considering that our sleep is so difficult. We do believe that the reason that we don't see each other is that as a child, we never looked other people in the eye.
